A good way to keep track of special possessions is to journal about personal belongings.
You may be wondering what exactly do I mean by that.
Well this idea came to me as I’ve been sorting through items at a loved one’s home.
If you’ve read any of my other articles or follow my youtube channel, I occasionally mention how my grandfather passed away in 2022.
While my family and I go through his items, I often wish I knew what was valuable.
Not monetarily necessarily, but more so personal value and nostalgia.
Where if he, or any of us, kept a notebook about what special items mean to us, it may help family members down the line.
If this concept interests you, I encourage you to continue reading for some ideas.

Notebook Recommendation
I think the best way to keep track of things is to journal about personal belongings.
Whether that be your own, or someone else’s as you clean out a room, house, etc.
So having one journal dedicated to writing in details about possessions will help you stay organized while also saving memories.
If you are looking for a good sturdy notebook with lots of pages, the Bullet Journal* is my favorite.
It has 204 pages, has 4 color options to choose from, plus stickers and 3 ribbon bookmarks.

What to Journal about these Possessions
From the details you know, or can find out from family, write in the journal the story behind each of these important belongings.
Maybe include a photo of the item if you can
Write in more details such as:
- Who gave it to you/them
- The origins of the item
- What it means to you/them
- Monetary value
- Hopes for this item in the future (inheritance)
- The story behind the possession
- Was there an occasion this object is connected to
- Plans for digitizing (old photos, videos, scanning pages, etc.)
- What town/state/country the belonging came from
Try your best to think of any information about the story and meaning associated with the personal belonging and jot it down in the notebook.
You and your loved ones will have this journal to save the nostalgic memories as a keepsake and reference book to go along with all the personal belongings.
Happy journaling!
