So after hitting my one year mark of blogging, I set some goals I would like to aim for in the future.
One of those goals is sharing personally a bit more to share about my life to both be able to look back on but also to connect with readers.
These types of articles will be more casual and less focused on trying to write for search engines for people to find.
I thought a good place to start would be sharing why I blog.

Reasons Behind Blogging
I originally wanted to start a blog a few years ago but never really stuck with it.
The situation that really catapulted me in to writing consistently was after the passing of my Grandfather in 2022.
I desperately needed something to focus on and bring enjoyment to my day after work.
(If you’re interested in reading more about my blog journey click here, First Year of Blogging.)
Once I got started I was really determined to stay writing consistently for both myself and any (few) readers I have.
Self Care Project
So working on my website, the articles, and social media quickly became a passion project but also a good self care activity.
A way to have a creative hobby while also sharing content with others.
I am a person who always seems to need something to look forward to.
I don’t know how normal that is compared to everyone else in the world, but I think it’s pretty common to have this mentality.
Genealogy
I realize writing this that, I think part of all of this was I didn’t know how to continue doing family research with my Grandfather being gone.
He was the main reason I started genealogy and the person I always shared new discoveries with, along with my Grandmother.
But I still loved searching family tree’s so I think I just shifted my focus to writing About genealogy versus actually doing it for myself.
I do hope to get back to a place where I continue the family heritage search, and I’m sure I will.
In the meantime though, writing the blog does help and I truly hope my articles can guide anyone that wants to do genealogy.
Journaling
I am far from artistic in the sense of drawing, painting, or maybe “traditional” artwork, but I have always kept a journal.
From as early as I could scribble in a notebook.
I keep a personal diary that I will never share on my platforms but the videos I post on YouTube are a form of creativity that I do feel comfortable sharing.
For not only the paper craft aspect, but also the video editing and adding music that I love listening to.
Journaling can also be such a helpful tool for mental health, self care, and simply a fun hobby.
It also provides a positive challenge for coming up with journal writing prompts in my articles and designing printables for Etsy.
And I love reading your comments of feedback and journaling you’ve tried!
Conclusion
So all that to say, this is just a mini insight in to why I blog and what type of content I enjoy creating.
I’m also aiming to write these personal sharing posts in one sitting and more free flowing thoughts.
This is going to cause the articles to maybe sound different or have a slightly different structure, but it’s just because I am writing naturally and less professional. If that’s the right way to say that.
To wrap this up, I want to say a genuine Thank You for reading! And I would love to connect with you and really feel free to send me a note! rebekka@rlsphotogenic.com or on Pinterest, I am on there daily!
