For the holiday season I have been sharing my holiday junk journal series featuring the Twelve Days of Christmas on my youtube channel RLS Photogenic!
In each of the videos I create a junk journal spread featuring the theme for each day.
- A Partridge in a Pear Tree
- Two Turtle Doves
- Three French Hens
- Four Calling Birds
- Five Golden Rings
- Six Geese a-Laying
- Seven Swans a- Swimming
- Eight Maids a-Milking
- Nine Ladies Dancing
- Ten Lords a-Leaping
- Eleven Pipers Piping
- Twelve Drummers Drumming
But I also include mementos from the holiday season to look back on as a memory journal.
If you follow along with the series I explain the pieces I use on each page because you can create them too!
If you are new to junk journaling here is a helpful article:
Tips for Creating a Holiday Junk Journal!
If you are interested in creating your own holiday junk journal I recommend starting to collect holiday trinkets right away!
Anything you can put in to a notebook is perfect.
Don’t forget you can always get creative even with simple tools like scissors and glue!
Here are some ideas on items to save:
- Holiday cards
- Stickers
- Gift catalogs
- Magazines
- Envelopes
- Gift Tags
- Wrapping paper
- Tissue paper
- Ribbons
- Pieces in the mail
- Stamps
Really anything you can think of that can be mostly flat and secured in to a journal will work!
Also be sure to date the pages and leave space to go back in and write notes about special occassions.
You can also keep areas blank or block out a section to add in photographs later on.

Flowers in Notebooks
You can even include pressed flowers!
Here is a helpful article on: How to Preserve Flowers.
If you don’t want to put the real live flowers on to the page, you can scan them in to your computer as an image and then print the photo!
The great thing about junk journaling is, you can never go wrong.
Anything you want to try or how ever you get creative, even if it is messy, is the best for junk journaling!

When creating a mixed media design, I find it best to have a notebook that can open flat at the binding.
This way it is easier to spread out pages and secure them on to the pages.
In many of my videos you will see me using the following two notebooks the most:
The Feela Dotted Journal
I use refills for this notebook set for my Twelve Days of Christmas journal series.
It is small and compact to keep with me at all times and I can store items I collect in it.

I love the idea of adding stickers to a journal spread. This makes it attractive as well as creative.
