Genealogy Resources from Readers

When I research my family tree I tend to stick to the same website resources for genealogy purposes.

It’s not for any other reason than it is what I know and understand how to use.

My top 3 sites are Ancestry.com Newspapers.com and FindAGrave.com (links below on how to use those)

But I wanted to start exploring other options.

Not only for my personal use but to learn more and inturn share with blog readers like yourself.

I wanted ideas from first hand users instead of a broad Google search.

So I took to Threads and asked the question what do other family historians use.

I received more responses on there that I could have ever imagined.

• Google books, Chancery Courts (if your chosen state has them digitalized), uni libraries (check for archives of local families) and Legal records (if your chosen city has them digitalized).
• British Newspaper Archive, TNA, histpop, JSTOR, British History Online, Populations Past, British Agricultural Historical Society, All local and regional genealogy societies, Victoria County History Series
• Irish News Archives
• Papers Past that has an archive of newspapers from the 19th and 20th century in New Zealand.
• Local parish records
• JewishGen for those with Jewish roots
• For German church records I recommend Matricula and Archion
• Facebook groups focused on specific areas

As of August 2024 (when I wrote this) I have not yet explored all of these websites personally.

But I plan to do so in the futures and will write about the experience of each.
