Mother’s Day is quickly approaching and I thought it would be a fun and different idea to share a blog post on ideas for creating a journal about Mom!
A journal or scrapbook is a great gift, or craft project to work on together, and to save so many memories!
What Should I Write to My Mom on Mother’s Day?
To start out, absolutely write out a card for your Mom on Mother’s Day!
You can purchase a card in a store or online, maybe with a cute design and/or sentimental quote!
But be sure to also include a heart felt personalized message.
(Here’s an Amazon Link for some card options! –https://amzn.to/3TsD6lO)
It is such a simple gesture to show you care and appreciate her on this special holiday.
You can write a Mother’s Day note that is about the current times, memories from the past, or a thank you message for all she has done for you over the years.
Cards can be saved in a keepsake box to look back on and remember that time, and I’m sure she will appreciate it.

How Do I Make A Journal for My Mom?
So making a journal for your mom, especially for Mother’s Day, is a fun gift to work on either on your own, with siblings, or with mom herself.
You can make it like an open letter of personal thoughts, shared memories, and special times.
It could be just pages of writing expressing various topics or things you love about her.
Another option is making it more of a scrapbook type design.
Maybe rally creative and incorporate photos, quotes of things she says, clips of her favorite things like movies, cartoons, books etc. and little mementos like ticket stubs.
There are tons of colorful scrapbooking supplies available at Michael’s Craft Store, Amazon, or Etsy.
No matter what type of journal about mom that you create, be sure to enjoy it and save it in a safe place.
Personal Note
You never know how this scrapbook will help and share memories with future generations.
A few years ago I came across a dairy type notebook that my maternal great-grandmother made for her children.
I created a digitized version of it by transcribing it to a word document and printing extra copies.
It is one of my favorite family heirlooms, that tells stories we would have never known about otherwise.

What Do I Write in a Journal About Mom for Mother’s Day?
You can write anything you would like to share about your mom! (I think it goes without saying, but I recommend sticking to positive details.)
Journal Prompt Ideas:
Here are some ideas I came up with to share with you for Mother’s Day writing topics:
- Key notes about her family history
- Describe her, both appearance and personality
- What was her life like growing up, as a teen, young adult, adulthood, senior years?
- What are Mom’s favorite things?
- Write down memories she would like to share about herself and/or motherhood
- Note some of her favorite activities, hobbies, and interests
- What does she like to wear? Any particular jewelry or perfume?
- What are some favorite memories of things you liked to do together?
- Does she like to read? What are her favorite books or authors?
- Does Mom collect anything specific? What is it?
- Who is her favorite artist, band, type of music?
- What’s Mom’s favorite season and holiday?
- Even simple things like, favorite color!
You could also try this, if someone were to ask you, “Describe 5 things about your mom,” what would you say or write?
Anything you chose to create on your own or together, will be a great way to capture the essence of who Mom is and the ways she can always be remembered.
Also be sure to include some photos!
Have fun creating your special journal about Mom, and Have a Happy Mother’s Day!

This is an awesome idea to make a journal for Mom. My mother is in heaven but I would love for someone to make a journey for me! I need to hint to my kids that I want this. A journal would be more valuable than any gifts I would get.
Thank you for reading! My condolences, and wishing you a Happy Mother’s Day with your family!
I think I’m going to do something in tribute of my mom this year for Mother’s Day. She passed five years ago, and Mother’s Day is so difficult every year to face, so maybe journaling about it (or a blog), will help me face it head-on. 🙂
I’m so sorry for your loss. Holidays can be very emotional after the passing of a loved one. Thank you for reading!
Without a doubt, Mother’s Day is a special day for moms and children alike. However, in my opinion, mothers should be celebrated every day since for children, every day is Mother’s Day. I also felt honored because my mother lives with me.
